Hole in the Wall? No Problem, See The Fun Solution Our Client Came Up With

Like many homes on the Oregon Coast, the back wall of the first level was below grade. Now that's contractor talk for a house built on a hill. The home owners had a water intrusion problem at the foundation wall and Terra Firma had come and put in a drainage system and pump along the inner foundation wall. No before pictures unfortunately.

We had pulled out all the soaked (and stinky) laminate flooring from the laundry/bath and bedroom. Laminate does not like to get wet, it says so right on the box, and this stuff was falling apart as we took it out (think wet cardboard). Take a look at the moldy, wet concrete when we finished. The dehumidifier was working overtime and so were the homeowners having to empty it all the time!

After Terra Firma did their excellent job, the client was left with a hole between the two rooms. What to do? Patch the drywall? sure... but this client had other ideas.... Fun ideas.

They didn't hesitate to tell us exactly what to do.... a little door of course!

Challenge accepted.

Although we had not been prepared for the surprise change in the work order, I think we did a pretty darn good job! I totally have plans to go back and add a little room behind it for the door to open in to, so stay tuned for more updates on this fun, surprising project!
